The official launch of Swindon’s Famous Duck Race gets off to a cracking start.

The open season for selling duck race tickets opened at fun evening at the Lalbagh Restaurant in Rodbourne on Wednesday 29th March. Attended by the deputy mayor Councillor Maureen Penny and accompanied by her daughter, the evening was further boosted with a donation of £250 from Abdul Amin the owner of the Lalbagh.

“This year’s duck race and family day out will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 29 May and all the funds raised will go to supporting Wiltshire Tree House and Brighter Futures, my chosen charities for this year” explained President of Swindon Old Town Rotary “A number of other local charities benefit through selling duck tickets to their members and followers enabling us to hopefully reach a target of 10,000 ducks entering the river Ray”.

Among many others, I met up with Debbie Clark of Jessie May an amazing organisation who provide hospice at home services enabling terminally ill children stay in their own homes. Cher Smith MBE, also came along to take some ducks to sell in aid of Swindon Foodbank who continue to provide a much needed safety net for Swindon residents.

The annual Duck Race and Family Day Out is sponsored by Nationwide and the McArthur Glen Outlet. The sponsorship covers all expenses ensuring every penny raised goes directly to the local charities.
